Outsourcing of information technology (ITO) and growingly also business processes and administration (BPO) has increased tremendously during the last 10 years. India is currently the most attractive country for outsourcing in terms of service and costs. However, the East-European countries are getting more visibility and growth, too. For example, maturity of Russian outsourcing markets has grown which has enabled “nearshoring” Labour costs are not anymore the only factor for decision-making, service levels, competencies and community-based activities, cultural fit and administrative environment are important, too. Three business models are to be explicated i.e. network, middle-man and development center strategies. Network strategy requires development of value network to face growing and varying needs of customers. In middle-man model companies are culturally nearer to customer and can also use the cost-effective sourcing. The third model is to set up a development center.
Objectives of the study are to i) investigate Indian ICT service markets and main playes ii) examine different business models and competitive factors and iii) compare those to western (European) equivalents. A special focus is put on Finnish software and services markets.
The research work will be executed in collaboration with Management Development Institute ( MDI) A research period in India will be done for company visits, field work and interviews in major Indian ICT service business hubs. It is also planned to create a research program agenda for a larger IndoEuropean research on ICT services markets.
